The Best of Pinterest's DIY Organization Hacks for the Home

Having an organized home is a game-changer for both your mental and physical health. The trick is taking the time to get organized and finding systems that work for you. Living in a 650 square foot space for the past two and a half years has forced me to constantly re-evaluate how I store my things. You wouldn't believe how many bags of stuff I've donated or discarded in the process!

I'm fairly happy with how my apartment is organized right now, however I'm MOVING this fall to an apartment with at least a couple hundred square feet of extra space! I can't wait to have this extra breathing room. This time, I want to take a look at the new place with my things in mind and really strategize how I'm going to organize it — with Pinterest as my trusty sidekick.

Here are my favourite DIY organization hacks for the home from Pinterest, some of which I have tried and some that I intend to try in my brand new space!

Let's start simple with this mind-blowingly easy way to store pesky plastic bags: take an empty cleaning wipe container, wash it out and stuff the bags inside so you can take them out one at a time as needed!

Moving on to tupperware, which in my experience has been a nightmare to store: this method uses "book bins" that you can find at any interior design or organization store, holding them in separate compartments on their sides so you can easily slide them out.

The inside of the fridge can be another sight for sore eyes. These are very affordable (supposedly only $10.95) modular bins that you can slide out to access only what you need. They would be easy to clean too!

When you have your pots and pans stacked on top of each other there's no chance you're going to grab the one you need without making a huge ruckus (do people still say "ruckus"?). I have technically tried this solution, but with the rack standing vertically instead of being on its side. I'm definitely going to try this alternative!

Digging through a jumble of different linens to find matching bedding can be a bummer, especially when you just. want. to. sleep. This brilliant solution involves folding up the matching pieces and placing them inside one of the pillow cases, so you can quickly spot and pull out the entire set.

Right now I have a desk organizer next to my side of the bed to keep any books that I'm currently reading, and when my phone is charging it sits on the window ledge... so, not an ideal situation. I love this bedside storage solution for easy access to my phone, books, glasses, etc. Plus it's nostalgic because it reminds me of the versions of these that would hang on the back of the front car seats, holding our pencil crayons, colouring books and toys.
